content shown higher in search results. Before we get started let’s have a look
at what a tag and a category is in WordPress.
Tags are essentially
keywords that you assign to each post they are typically displayed underneath
each post. Someone viewing your blog can then click on one of those tag links
and an archive page with all the posts containing that tag will be displayed.
Every post in WordPress is filed
under one or more categories. Categories allow your posts to be classified into
groups and sub-groups. The posts categories sub panel is where you can edit and
delete categories you can also do this when creating posts. To create a
category you just enter a name for the category and you can enter a slug here. Which
is the address for the category or you can leave it blank and WordPress will
create one for you. Then enter a description if you’d like and click on add a
new category. Your new category will then appear in the list here each category
can also have a parent. This enables you to set up a hierarchy in the category
structure to do this.

Let’s use the category I just created as the parent so I
enter a name for my new category. I’ll
let WordPress create the slug and here I select which category I want the
parent to be so Ill select the category I just created and click on add new
category as you can see your new category is underneath its parent.
And you know that by the line beside it, this
means any posts I create in this category will also appear in the parent
category You can use the bulk action to delete any categories that you don’t
need and you can use the quick edit feature.

To make changes to
the category you can also use keywords also known as tags to sort your new
posts think of tags as a One word summary of your posts. It allows visitors to
quickly find posts that are they’re Interested in you can also click these tags
and every post with the same tag will be shown you can edit all your tags By
clicking on tags on the left here.

With a list of the most popular tags that
top just like categories tags can be created in your site edited in bulk as
well as deleted if you don’t want to use them. You’ve also got a search box in right of dashboard,
if you want to search for any specific tags.
Now you know how to use categories
and tags so your visitors can find your content quickly and easily. Search
engines like Google Prefer content that is organized and easy to find. So your
content will be featured higher in search results.
